Long-Term Running Goals: Keep on Running and staying fit always. Our bodies were made to MOVE!!!! Personal: I've always been more a dancer than a Runner, but i've ALWAYS been into working out and staying active. I ran the 1 mile in track in Highschool ( i think my fastes mile was right around 7 mins.) but never in my life have I ran longer than one mile until 2009. I am a Zumba instructor and I run in the Spring/Summer. I love running but I do not enjoy running on the TM or outside in the cold, so I guess you could say I'm a Fair weather runner.

Turned off my alarm this morning... I was soooo tired. I ended up doing some strengthening exercises here at home and an ab workout. Tonight I'll be teaching Zumba 8-9 PM. Now its time for a beautful Summer day with the kiddies! I'm hoping I'll be able to fit in a run tomorrow. |

Didn't go running today. I was supposed to teach a kids Zumba class at 10:30 this morning, but ended up at the Doctors office and then the ER with Scotlyn. She has Cellulitus in her knee and they hope thats all it is and it can be knocked out with antibiotics. Poor baby - Her left knee is so swollen and red :(

I was at Zumba until 10 PM last night, and then when I tried to got to sleep I couldn't because I was so pumped with Adrenaline.... I was up til about 1:30 AM.... but I still got up and went running at 5 AM.... pretty proud of myself!! | |

Last week I felt like Superwoman..... Today.... uh.... Not so much! We were going to do 8 today, but then this morning came and I felt so tired, weak and sore. We ended up doing 4 miles at an 8:09 avg. pace. I have had an extra stressful week and with very little sleep - so I guess thats all catching up with me today.
Next week I'll be better prepared to do more miles hopefully.
Now, I've got to go get ready for the Parade!!! ♫♪ I love a parade ♪♫ |

I was getting on myself for not running 8 miles on Saturday.. But then I looked at the training schedule that I'm on (to get ready for the 1/2)... and... I'm ahead for where I shoud be right now... so then I felt better. I'm going to stay on that training schedule now, so I don't injure or overwhelm myself.
Here's my plans for the week ahead for my workouts:
Monday-- Run 5 AM - 4 miles
Tuesday-- Gym 7 AM - Weights & Abs, PM- Teach Zumba 8-9
Wednesday-- Run 7 AM - 4 miles, Teach Zumba 10:30 AM
Thursday-- Gym 6 AM - Weights & Abs, PM- Zumba 6-7:30 in SLC w/ Beto!!!
Friday-- Run 5 AM- 7 miles
Saturday-- 8 AM - Teaching Zumba @ Throwdown w/ Michael Banks
Sunday-- Day of rest (of course) ... if you can really call it that... sometimes I feel like I've ran a marathon, after church with my kids ;) | |

Went to the Gym this morning and lifted and then ran for 1 and a half mile(8 min. pace). I wanted to run more but Moses needed me home by 7... so .... oh well!!! And then...some "lost soul" wandering around the gym approached me and asked me for a ride home ;)

Tonight I'm going to SLC for a Zumba class with Beto Perez (the creator of Zumba). I'm beyond EXCITED!!!!!! It will be an hour and a half of Awesome Cardio. Can't wait to DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!!!!! | |

Merri and I ran 5 miles this morning at an 8 min avg. pace. She was wearing her running shorts and the construction workers just about went CRAZY! (woo-woo)- thats a cyber whistle.
I'm teaching Kids Zumba at the Studio at 10:30.
We are going swimming after that at the Scera Pool in Orem - I'm going to wear my full-on bodysuit - gotta stay covered! Whats up with those girls rockin' the bikinis or tankinis! (this paragraph is written with loads of sarcasm- Loads!)

I felt like I could have run longer and Faster... good day for me. I had pasta last night for dinner - maybe that really did help. Well not just pasta.... pasta and then some choc. chip cookies.... and then a few choc. cinnamon bears.... yeah I'm pretty sure the chocolate covered cinnamon bears are what helped me out today! | |

I'm not teaching at the studio today because they are having try-outs for the dance teams, so I get the morning off. I think we're going to pull out the kiddie pool and the slip-n-slide, Come on over if you want!

Merri, Lily and I did the Speedy Spaniard course today - Our avg pace was 7:31. Pretty dang good! - seems like the speed is starting to come more for me now, I'm not going to lie though - today was hard! I felt like I was going to throw up right around 5 and 1/2. (I shoudn't have ate that Big Ol' Bratwurst at the BBQ last night.) And my foot was hurting a little bit and when I took off my shoe, there was blood all over my sock, I think it was coming from my toes. I need some good running shoes I think!

I slept in til 8:30 today - felt so good! Then I decided to go to the Gym around 9:30 ( I love it when Moses is off work!) I caught the end of a Zumba class and then I lifted and did some crunches/reverse crunches.
I'm excited for the Race tomorrow, its only my 2nd race - so I'm a little nervous too. My first 5K i ran in 26 mins with no training - so I'm hoping to do this one in 24 mins ( 8 min avg. pace).
We are having a BBQ tomorrow night at 7:00 PM and then Fireworks after. Lily, Merri, Tynelle - you should come on over. Just bring your own meat and side to share if you are coming - everything else will be provided. Everyone is Welcome!!!!! I ♥♥♥ The 4Th of July!!! | |

Speedy Spaniard route with Lily and Merri this morning. Avg pace was 7:58. We ran the route and then ran the extra mile home. I was very tired this morn when that alarm went off at 4:45 AM (didn't go to bed until 12 last night). But alas I did get up and I'm so glad I did, I actually felt really good on this run this morning - it wasn't as hard as the last time we ran it - progress!!! Sweet, Sweet progress!!!
Things I learned this morning : Merri has super spidey senses, she can hear a car a mile away and see things that the average human cannot see. And Lily is a direct descendant of the king of Scotland - I'm running with a super hero and a member of the royal family -- Doesn't get any better than that my friends. | |

I went to Zumba this morning at the Gym - so fun! I also ran a mile after that because I was supposed to do 16 miles this week and I'd only done 15 so I just couldn't stand it - so there ya go now I can say I reached my miles for the week. I lifted upper body too and did some reverse crunches. When I got home and told Moses what I had done - he said "thats all!", ha ha Mr. Funny guy.
Tomorrow is the bless-ed day of rest and i need it. | |

Ran to the gym with Melody and did a Zumba class and then ran home.(Total 5 miles) Have no idea what our pace was.
PM - 8 miles with Merri in about 64 mins i think. We went at 8 tonight and the bugs were out something fierce! Merri was nearly blinded by a happy little bug and I'm positive I swallowed a few. Not to mention the dog that nearly took a chunk out of Merri's calf. We braved bugs, dogs, cars, heat and really stinky smells coming from a barn - i think we deserve some sort of medal for this run!
PS- this is a Personal best for me I have never done this many miles in one day and 8 miles is the longest run I've run thus far. Good day! | |

I didn't run this morning and now I hate myself.. aahhhh! I didn't get Mary's message until this morning that she wanted to run in the morning and when my alarm went off all I could think was I don't want to run all by myself.... I thought Merri was on her way to Tae Bo , little did I know she was outside waiting to run with me. I'm so frustrated with myself. I'm so SORRY Merri.

Got in a run this morning at Duck Creek ( I was running on an ATV trail most of the way) - it was so beautiful up there. The roads were uneven and there was a lot of hills so I got my workout. I would have run further but I came upon this cabin where there was a ferocious looking dog ahead and I turned right around. |

Another day at Duck Creek. I didn't get in any running this day but still did some cool stuff! We took some nature walks with the kids this day, and we also went to Mammoth caves - it was so awesome, we climbed through a couple of caves there, at one point we were inching through about a 2 1/2ft space to get through to another cavern. All my boys came with me, my five year old made it with me the first time through - we went through again and encountered some bats and then Rhoman was scared and wouldn't go any further. Even Scotlyn made it through the first part of the cave with me but when we had to start crawling she got scared and I had to take her back (Moses wouldn't come with us - The chicken! ha ha )All together we climbed through three different caves and there were more that I wanted to do but we didn't have time. Very, Very cool! |

I'm really frustrated right now because my knee is really hurting. I think I did something to it last night at Zumba. I'm hoping this is NOT going to effect my 1/2 tomorrow.
WHAT GREAT TIMING! WHY??? WHY TODAY???
UPDATE: Knee is feeling a lot better now. I put some muscle rub on it and the more I walk around and move on it its feeling better. It hurt last night before I went to bed and then when I tried to put weight on it this morning it really hurt - I was limping around all morning long. Pain is still there but it seems like its getting better. I think I'll ice it tonight. | |

Done with my first 1/2!! woo hooo!!!! My time was 1:32:48. (7:05 avg. pace) I feel so good that I did this and beat the goal I had set! If you would have told me a year ago I would be running a half marathon I would have laughed at you. I'm so glad I set this goal and stayed to it and got it done. I really like running now, thats something I couldn't say right at first.
I think I'm going to be kissing another toe-nail goodbye after this race.
I felt good and had a lot of energy. Right around mile 8 my toes started to hurt (they were bleeding), but I pushed through that. I really didn't start to run out of steam until about mile 11. Then i had to start mentally pushing myself to go on. When I got to the last 1/2 mile I picked up the pace again and passed up quite a few people. And then when I saw what I thought was the finish line I started to sprint. Much to my dismay we still had to loop around and run on the grass to the finish line.
Everyone had on I-pods/headphones -- I thought we couldn't have them! I think I would have run faster had I had some music! On another note - I'm so glad my knee started feeling better. It felt better today - No problem at all. Thanks for all the advice and for the prayer Lily.☺ | |

Ran with my girls - Lily and Merri. We did a drop-off/pick-up sort of thing! It worked out good! My legs are still hurting from Saturday - I wonder when they'll loosen up?

AM -- I went to the gym and lifted. Its been about 3 or 4 weeks since I've done any kind of weight lifting. I was trying to see if I stopped lifting for awhile if that pain in my chest would go away and it worked for now - we'll see!

Great run with Lily and Merri this morning. Too early though.... I am so tired right now! I went to bed too late and got up too early. I need at least 7 hours to function. I got about 5 hours last night and its just not enough. I have no energy and no motivation to do anything when I'm tired. And i get stressed and overwhelmed so much more when I'm not getting sleep.

I had a GREAT run with Lily and Merri early this fine morning! Merri was kind-of quiet -- I wonder if she was still shocked from the Zumba Session last night! Lily took off for some more after Merri and I dropped off - you go energizer bunny!!

We went to Payson Canyon today and hiked Grotto with the kids. Great (short) hike , we had a good time. Followed by a BBQ with the neighborhood.

Racing Cane today with my kids and it was GREAT! It was so fun to go to the event with my kids and then watch them cross the finish line too. What a fun morning! Not to mention I took first place in my division -woo hoo!- and 4th overall. And I finally had a sub 7 pace. My avg pace was 6:54. That made me feel really good!
My 3 oldest boys ran a 3k and they all came in together (4th, 5th, 6th in their age group) and had about 7:10 avg pace. They did awesome. Rhoman did a 1k and got 3rd place in his age group. I'm so proud of them.
Such a good memory for our whole family.

Wow its been quite the past 12 hours - I taught Zumba last night 8-9 pm. Got up at 6:00 and ran 8 miles w/ Merri-Merri. And then I just did another Zumba/Turbo class at Golds from 9-10 this morning. I'm going to sleep good tonight!
I've got my sisters kids here for the day and they're staying over night. So 8 kids to entertain today. I'm thinking a trip to the park is in the near future - I need to get all of these kids out of the house! We are all going to the Spanish Fork/Salem game tonight. GO S.F. !!!!! | |

(the girl who taught today), Followed by a Shaved Ice - it was the last day they were open for the season, and can you imagine our good fortune - It was Free! They were giving away free sno-cones peoples! Holy Awesomeness Batman! That made my day! Hand me a Free Coconut/Melona shaved ice and I am one happy woman! Boom Boom Pow! I am a tad bit hyper right now ... and probably using one too many exclamation points!!!!! Oh well... I'm back and I'm blogging - and I will be a much better runner next week - hopefully :) | |

No sign of Miss Merri this morning - I admired her Halloween decor for a few mins and then I took off. I ran for 20 mins- so I'm calling it 2 miles, it was probably more like 2 1/2 but we'll say 2 to be safe. It was 33 degrees this morning - not to bad - I had gloves, pants, jacket, and a beanie on so the only really cold thing was my face. I wanted to run longer but running alone makes me nervous - especially in the dark.
I L♥ve my new shoes! what a difference a good pair of shoes make! I think my toenails are safe now.
Well - my next workout today will be teaching Zumba tonight at Central Utah Dance Academy in Moroni. I'm looking forward to that. | |

Well here's the dealy-o. I renewed my membership with Golds last week and the guy said I had a free training session with a personal trainer. I thought "why not", I could use a few new weight training exercises, so I made the appointment.
This morning I met with, lets just call her "A" to protect her identity, So "A" tells me to go hit the treadmill for a quick warm-up, so I do and after a mile and a 1/2 (and some great conversation with my girls Lily and Merri) "A" still hasn't come to get me yet. So I hop off the treadmill to go get her. Once I find her she now informs me that there won't be enought time to do a workout today and we'll just do the consultation. I'm slightly annoyed - but whatever - I still go along with it. We start to talk , she's punching in my info to the computer, and then she say's "so I heard you do tri-athlons". What! I just met this girl - I've never met this chick until 10 mins ago and I've never done a triathalon, huh, I'm confused.
Well all my info is in the computer and according to "A"'s information I am actually 34 years of age not 31. Hmmmmm I work out about 5 times a week, lift weights, do cardio, try to eat healthy, which makes me older than I really am? Interesting! Actually I feel more like 24 then 34. But "A" tells me that after workouts with her I would feel like I was 27 again.Well alllrighty then!
Then she tells me my body fat is 20% which is healthy but not athletic. She continues to tell me that her body fat it about 13% and that I could get down to that too. I'm thinking - "A" How old are you, 18 probably, you've never gone through a pregnancy, birthed any children and you are not currently taking care of children either, no wonder YOUR body fat is at 13%. But don't worry I did not say that out loud. Then "A" asks me if I'm interested in having a personal trainer and I honestly tell her that I'm not going to pay for a personal trainer I was just there for the free advice. She tells me "oh thats fine" but I can tell she is now annoyed.
My point - I left feeling worse than when I went in and I didn't even get any new exercises - which is what I really wanted. I am meeting with her again in the morning for the workout which we didn't get in today - so- We'll see how that goes. We'll see what cutesie little "A" with 13% body fat can do with 34 yr old me! | |

I was kind of getting on "A"s case yesterday, but today I went in and met with her and did a core workout and I was quite impressed - she taught me some really good stuff and I know I'm going to be feeling it tomorrow. Thank you "A". Very much worth the free training session today! and then looky there I got in some miles too. Not much, but its something! Looking forward to a Zumba Halloween Party tomorrow at Good Ol' Golds. |

Excuse #46 -- I didn't get up to run this morning because I stayed up too late watching a movie.... I had a dentist appt at 8:00 also (no cavities!!!) Then I went to the gym at 9:00 and did a zumba-turbo class. It was good!
I really hope i can run tomorrow morning but I have a client at 8:00 AM and I'm not sure I'll be able to fit in a run and then getting ready for my client all before 8. We'll see how it goes. | |

On another note - I'm trying to kick my pepsi habit - no pepsi this morning. I'm trying out another energy alterantive - wish me luck! I've tried quitting before and had no energy and got major headaches - hopefully this time will be different.
** PM update -- This drink that I'm trying has 60 mg of caffeine per 8.4 oz. The 12 oz pepsi I have had every morning for the last 10 years has about 28 mg. And if the caffeine in the Monavie is natural - is the caffeine in the pepsi unnatural? I just upped the caffeine by drinking this. Is one caffeine better than the other? I thought that the natural energy from the monavie was from fruit/herbs and stuff like that. I definetly want to kick the soda habit for obvious reasons, but whats the harm in daily caffeine intake - seriously! All of you health-conscious runners on this blog - weigh in - I want to know how many of you rely on caffeine for energy. Is caffeine bad for you? I've read some reports that say caffeine may actually be good for women. I'm so confused -- what do you all think? | |

Hit up Golds this beautiful morning and did weights and a core workout. I love the time change, its been so much easier for me to go to bed and get up early.
I am loving this new energy drink too - its been great! I can't believe the amount of energy I had yesterday and so far today, I've gotten so much done. And i slept great last night, but I didn't have trouble getting up - which is usually a problem for me. ☺☻☺☻☺

I went to the Gym tonight because I didn't make it this morning. I did a Zumba class and then ran 2 miles next to Melody. It was good to talk with her - she was still pretty sore from her 1/2 on Saturday.
This morning I took my grandpa to physical therapy. He had open heart surgery 3 weeks ago. He's 74 years old and a former runner. He used to run from his home in Springville to the Provo Cemetery (about 10 miles and over Ironton hill) almost every morning. He was a sprinter in Highschool and then ran 4 marathons. He loved running and would still be doing it to this day I'm sure if he hadn't had to have his knee replaced. He pretty much stopped after that. It was fun talking to him about running - and it made me very grateful to be young and healthy and able to run. I could tell the sadness in his voice when he talked about his knee surgery and how the doctor said he could only jog after that and if he did more than that he would be right back in for the same surgery.What a great guy - I love my Grandpa.
And while I was sitting waiting for him to finish his therapy there was a copy of "Runners World" . So I read it cover to cover. I guess you could say my morning was filled with running without me actually physically running.

I only worked out twice this week -- I'm taking it easy intentionally because I know come January its about to get CrAzY! I'm going to be teaching more Zumba classes, and I'm going to be working with Michael Banks, I auditioned to be in his workout DVD, and I made it in, along with 10 others, we are the S.W.E.A.T team. I was so surprised, Really! I didn't think I had a chance! So we'll be working on that and then shooting the DVD in February. He is crazy intense, so I know i'm in for some great workouts.
Fitness Goals for 2010 -
- I want to run a Marathon! Yes I will do it!!!
- I want to learn to ballroom dance with my husband!
- Get tighter, leaner, better, more fit.

Taught Zumba 8-9 tonight. The studio was freezing!!! Its been closed for Christmas so the heat wasn't on when I got there. We all started out in coats and jackets, but everyone started shedding clothing pretty quick once we got going. It was really fun tonight! I love all the ladies who come! It was a good pick-me-up. I get grumpy when its cold and dreary, so Zumba is just what I needed. Dancing and the music just makes me happy!!!
I've still got this dumb lingering cough. I think the air quality isn't helping much either. Where did all this snow come from? Why couldn't it have come last week for Christmas? Now I don't want the snow!!! This is the time of year when I start thinking every day that I want to live somewhere warmer, January and February are not the funnest in Utah. I'm just a Summertime girl! Its my favorite time of year. I DISLIKE winter. Yuck! OK I'm done whining now. | |
